The Hemel en Aarde valley is often referred to as “Little Burgundy” because of the valley’s reputation for producing world class Cool Climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

The cellar was designed bearing this is mind and pays homage to the great wine houses in the Côte de Beaune.

We are delighted to welcome guests, young and old, to our tasting room and dining room, with its wonderful views across the Debos dam, through Onrus to beyond Betty’s Bay, as the crow flies some 28 kilometres away and on a clear day beyond to Cape Point, some 75 kilometres away..

Access to the tasting room and dining room is via a staircase. However, there is wheelchair/pushchair friendly access via the staff entrance, and a disabled toilet is available, as are baby changing facilities.

Our skilled tasting room staff welcome visitors, from 11.00am to 5.00pm every (other than Christmas Day) day INCLUDING Sunday.

Outside of these hours tastings are sometimes possible, by arrangement, with Lisa Dunn or Lorraine Loubser.

Groups of ten people, or more, are by arrangement to ensure that we can accommodate you.

The full range of Sumaridge wines from the current collection are available for tasting, and are for sale.

Some previous vintages from our vinothéqueare also available to purchase.

Tea, coffee, soft drinks & water are also available when the Tasting Room is open.

Between 12.00pm and 3.00pm, 7 days a week, we are pleased to offer a variety of tasting platters, including one designed for our little guests and we are always happy to warm a bottle!

These are available in the informal dining room adjacent to the tasting room, or, subject to the weather, outside by the dam.

We regret that only Guide Dogs are permitted into the Tasting and Dining Room.

“My Journey”

Friday 12th February 2016

Ed’ Bredenkamp and Terry Kobus, in conjunction with Sumaridge Estate Wines invite you to the launch and private viewing of “My Journey” on Friday 12th February from 6pm - 9pm in the tasting room at Sumaridge.

Terry Kobus
“Maps are the everyday metaphors that speak of the fragile and transitory state of our lives and our surroundings. Rivers shift their course, glaciers melt, volcanoes erupt, boundaries change both physically and politically.
The only true constant is change.”
In this exhibition Kobus adds to maps, envelopes and music sheets his sensitive drawings and paintings.

He explores the theme of migration using birds as a metaphor for people in transition and the current tragic refugee crisis.

Terry Kobus Ndad was born and educated in Zimbabwe. He left the war torn Zimbabwe after completing his National Service and moved to South Africa to study Fine Art in the late seventies after which he accepted a post as lecturer in Graphic Printmaking at the then WITS Technikon in Johannesburg. He has been involved in graphic printmaking for 40yrs and returned to his first love, oil painting, 12 years ago. Hermanus is his home and “Originals" in the town's main street is his working Studio/Gallery where visitors can see him at work daily on new and exciting paintings.

Every  quarter, we host a different art exhibition, usually featuring the work of South Arfican artists.
Over the last few years, we have featured artists who specialize in very different genres.  These have included Jono Dry,  Nelson Mandela, Irna Dry, Jeandré Mariner, Anthony Harris,  Terry Kobus and Ed Bedenkamp.  In conjunction with Hermanus FynArts,  Sumaridge is proud to sponsor the Violet and Anne Bellingham memorial trophy for art.  Specifically aimed at encourange young artists, in grade 10, 11 & 12 resident along the whale coast.
